Where is Mayawati seen in high-tech politics? what are the challenges
Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati has been out of public view for a long time. She is sometimes seen giving statements in the media to express her opinion on any major issue and party. In between, she is mostly seen holding review meetings with BSP leaders in the party office in Lucknow and giving instructions. His pictures while holding meetings in the party office are often seen on social media. Mayawati, who has been the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh four times, was seen in Lucknow on April 14 on the occasion of the 135th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Constitution maker Ambedkar, he along with the senior leadership and workers of the party paid homage.
However, Mayawati has been showing her strength to make this day special. On April 14, 2025, Mayawati had given sleepless nights to the opposition parties by holding a big rally in Lucknow. But, this time he did not hold any rally. In such a situation, along with her supporters, her rivals have also started asking where Mayawati is seen in today’s high-tech politics. When all the leaders and parties are visible everywhere in the era of social media, then why is Mayawati not visible to the public and media-social media… Let us know about the challenges this creates for BSP.

Current politics is the era of hi-tech politics.
At present, where the era of hi-tech politics is going on, BSP and party president Mayawati are seen lagging behind. In today’s era, there is talk of social media, data analytics and aggressive election narratives. By adopting these, big elections are being won in the country. In such times, the position of Mayawati and her party BSP does not look as strong as before. However, BSP definitely maintains a strong grassroots hold among its voters. But this alone will not suffice. To come to power, BSP will have to add additional votes along with its core voters. For this, he will have to make inroads among Gen Z youth and different castes also.
In today’s politics, apart from traditional methods like rallies, dialogues, cadre etc., social media is a huge medium for contesting elections. The biggest role in this is that it has become necessary to be continuously present on platforms like Facebook, X, Instagram and YouTube. BSP and Mayawati remain active on these platforms only in a very limited and controlled manner. Mayawati herself also holds fewer public rallies and media interactions. Due to being less active here, the party’s hold among young and urban voters has weakened.
Mayawati’s political style
Mayawati is still adopting a low-profile model in current politics. She is still doing a controlled, low-publicity politics. Mayawati keeps her point in press notes and limited statements. She keeps distance from any big alliance. On the other hand, BJP, Congress and SP are performing better in the elections by forming big alliances. Whereas in today’s politics it has become necessary to continuously build the narrative.
Burglary in core vote bank
In politics, it is said about leaders and parties that they should be constantly visible and there should be discussion about them. There has been little discussion of BSP and its leaders in recent years (except in elections). Mayawati is rarely seen in both media and social media. Opposition parties have taken advantage of this. Actually, the biggest strength of BSP and Mayawati is the Dalit vote bank. But now BJP has made a dent in the vote bank of BSP through social engineering. Many figures have come out after the elections, in which a large section of Dalits have voted for BJP.

Who is doing the burglary?
On the other hand, Samajwadi Party also tried to form Dalit-Backward alliance. For this, SP has given the slogan of PDA, in which D means Dalit. The result of this is that the solid vote bank of BSP is no longer as solid as before but now it has started disintegrating. How important the Dalit vote bank is for occupying the throne of power in UP can be gauged from the fact that along with BSP, Samajwadi Party and BJP also organized mega events on the birth anniversary of Baba Saheb. SP raised the flag of PDA in every village. On the other hand, BJP had made huge preparations for this. BJP launched a big scheme of ‘Yuva Samvad Sangam’ and statue beautification and lighting of 11 thousand lamps in the entire state.

Decline in BSP’s election performance
If we look at the past figures, BSP last performed its best in Uttar Pradesh in the 2007 assembly elections. After this, BSP has continuously weakened since 2012. BSP, which won 206 seats in 2007, got only 80 seats in 2012 and its vote percentage also dropped to 26 percent, which was 30 percent in the last election. After this the party was reduced to zero seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. BSP also lost the 2017 UP assembly elections badly under the leadership of Mayawati.
In the 2017 elections, the party performed worse than in 2012. BSP got only 19 seats in this election and its vote percentage also fell to 22 percent. However, after this, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BSP formed an alliance with Samajwadi Party and 10 MPs of the party won in this election. This alliance did not last long and broke.

BSP contested the 2022 assembly elections. The party was in dire straits in this election also. BSP, which ruled the politics of UP, was reduced to just one seat. Not only this, the party’s vote percentage fell to 12.88 percent. In this election, both BJP and SP together broke into the vote bank of BSP. After this, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BSP fielded its candidates on 79 seats but the party could not win even a single seat. The party’s vote percentage also declined to 9.39 percent.
How prepared is BSP for 2027?
BSP has been facing severe defeat in election after election under the leadership of Mayawati. BSP’s image as a victorious party has been shattered due to continuous defeats. In such a situation, Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2027 are on the horizon. There is less than a year left for the elections. When BJP and SP are giving edge to their election campaigns by being present on media and social media, then BSP and its president are very less active on these platforms.
