Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader George Kurien resigned from the Union Council of Ministers on Tuesday. After the end of his six-year tenure as a Rajya Sabha member, he resigned from the post of Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Minority Affairs and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

In a statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan, it was said that on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the President has accepted the resignation of George Kurien with immediate effect under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution. Kurien was holding the responsibility as Union Minister of State in the third term of the Modi government from August 2024.

65-year-old George Kurien’s Rajya Sabha tenure had ended, after which he had to leave the post of Union Minister. According to sources, considering the performance of BJP in the Kerala Assembly elections, he was not nominated to Rajya Sabha again.

George Kurien was born on 20 September 1960 in Nambiyakulam, Ettumanoor municipal area of ​​Kottayam district, Kerala.

He completed his primary education in his home region and then obtained bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law. George Kurien was sworn in as Union Minister of State on 9 June 2024. After this, on June 11, 2024, he took charge of the Ministry of Minority Affairs and Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy.
