The political atmosphere became quite heated on Thursday during the discussion on women empowerment in the special session of Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Samajwadi Party MLA Ragini Sonkar Made serious allegations against the UP BJP government regarding women’s safety and directly asked questions to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

This special session was called to criticize the opposition on the defeat of the 131st Amendment Bill of the Constitution, but during the discussion, the opposition made it a platform to corner the government on the issue of women’s safety and law and order.

Taking part in the discussion, Ragini Sonkar raised the issue of increasing crimes against women in Uttar Pradesh. Questioning Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, he said that when serious incidents happened with daughters in different districts of the state, where was the government’s reaction. Questioning the CM, he said, “Where were you when the incidents happened in Hathras, Mathura, Meerut, Sultanpur, Kasganj, Kaushambi, Banaras, Lakhimpur Kheri, Unnao and Fatehpur when daughters became barbarians. Where were you?”

In her speech, Ragini Sonkar made a sharp attack on BJP and said that the government has failed to ensure the safety of women. She said in an emotional tone, “I am a woman of Uttar Pradesh. I keep burning every day. Today the BJP government is burning women alive somewhere with its negative thinking.”

In his address, he also mentioned the recent incident in Bahraich, where BJP MLA Anupama Jaiswal got burnt during a protest. He told that after this incident, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was the first to come to meet him, while later both the Deputy Chief Ministers met. Ragini Sonkar said, “Those who know real respect for women, they first went to meet her.”

Who is Ragini Sonkar?

Ragini Sonkar is a youth MLA of Samajwadi Party, who is MLA from Machhilshahr seat of Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh. He studied MBBS from RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata and then specialized in ophthalmology (Eye Disease) from AIIMS, Delhi.
