However, there has been no official statement from the BCCI regarding Bumrah’s exclusion from the series and his replacement. The top name on the list of three contenders to replace Bumrah is Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Aaqib Nabi Dar. The 29-year-old has impressed everyone with his brilliant bowling in the last two Ranji Trophy seasons. He played a key role in his team’s title win in the 2025-26 season by taking 60 wickets. He also took six wickets during the India A tour of Sri Lanka last month. Therefore, Aaqib has a high chance of getting his first call-up to the Indian Test team. Vidarbha fast bowler Yash Thakur is also in the running. Yash recently made his debut for India in the T20 series against Zimbabwe. The third name is fast bowler Anshul Kamboj, who made his Test debut in the 2025 Old Trafford Test against England. Any one of these three players could be considered to replace Bumrah.
