Once again the Sikh (Sardar) community is at the center of discussion in the politics of Uttar Pradesh. Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav recently held a meeting with representatives of various social and business sections, in which the presence of people from Sikh community also became a topic of discussion. After this, questions are being raised in the political circles that what is the political strength of the Sikh community in UP and how important can its role be in the 2027 assembly elections.
The population of the Sikh community in Uttar Pradesh is estimated to be between 7 to 8 lakh. This community is not large in terms of numbers, but its social and political influence is considered notable in many districts and assembly constituencies of the state. Especially in Terai and Western Uttar Pradesh, the Sikh community has a strong economic and social identity due to its association with agriculture, trade, transport and industry.

The Sikh community has a significant presence in districts like Lakhimpur Kheri, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly, Rampur, Bijnor, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Lucknow, Kanpur Nagar and Gorakhpur. In many of these assembly seats, the electoral contest is very close, where even a few thousand votes can change the result.

Political analysts believe that the vote of the Sikh community can prove to be decisive in many areas.
