Will arrears increase due to delay in 8th Pay Commission? Central employees can get this much money

New Delhi. The wait of central employees continues for the 8th Pay Commission. The Commission is currently collecting suggestions from employee organizations, officials and other stakeholders. The government has given the commission 18 months to prepare its report. After the report comes, the government will consider it and after the approval process is completed, the new salary system will be implemented.

In such a situation, if the actual start of wage revision is after January 1, 2026, then it is natural for questions to arise among the employees regarding arrears. Here it is important to understand the effective date and the date of credit of increased salary in the account separately. If the government finally gives effect to the pay revision from January 1, 2026, then arrears of pay difference for the intervening period can be given if implemented later.

Understand example on 50 thousand basic salary

Suppose the current basic salary of an employee is Rs 50,000. In future, for example, if the fitment factor is fixed at 2.00, then the new basic salary can be Rs 1 lakh. However, this is only a mathematical example and cannot be considered as an actual salary increase.

In the same example, if a monthly difference of Rs 50,000 is made and the revision is considered effective from January 2026, then the basic pay difference of six months could be Rs 3 lakh. But the actual arrears may differ as it may also include accounting for DA, HRA, transport allowance and other salary components.

Government's decision on the final amount is important

At present there is no fixed amount for the arrears of the 8th Pay Commission. The actual amount will depend on the fitment factor, revised pay, effective date and final order of the government. Therefore, the figures being mentioned now should be seen only as estimates or examples. The final confirmation of whether the arrears will be received or not and for what period will be given only after the government order is issued.
