‘Will not allow the country to be divided by North-South narrative’… Amit Shah attacked the opposition, accused of spreading confusion

Tezzbuzz Desk – During the discussion on the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah clarified the government’s stand and stressed the need for delimitation. He said that there is a huge disparity in the number of voters in many parliamentary seats in the country, which is very important to correct.

Delimitation necessary for equality of votes

During the discussion, Amit Shah said that there are 127 seats in the country where there are more than 20 lakh voters, while in some seats this number is much less. In such a situation, delimitation is necessary to implement the principle of “one person, one vote and one value”. He said that at some places an MP represents 45 lakh people, at other places only 6 lakh – this inequality is not good for democracy.

Opposition targeted on women’s reservation

Attacking the opposition over the Women’s Reservation Bill, Amit Shah said that some parties are spreading confusion on this issue. He made it clear that the government will not allow the politics of dividing the country in the name of North-South to succeed.

Target to be implemented by 2029

He said that under the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, delimitation will be done on the basis of the census to be held after 2026 and after that women will be given reservation. The government aims to have women’s reservation fully implemented by the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

Mention of Indira Gandhi government

Amit Shah also mentioned Indira Gandhi during this period. He said that the decision to freeze the seats was taken at that time in 1971, due to which the disparity in seats continues till now. To correct this, the present government is taking this step.

Accusing Indi Alliance of appeasement politics, the Home Minister said that some parties are talking about reservation on the basis of religion, whereas there is no such provision in the Constitution.

Three big objectives of the bill

Amit Shah enumerated three main objectives of this bill. Removing old delimitation disparities, implementing women’s reservation by 2029, bringing equality in the value of votes.
