Will the name of Kerala CM be announced today? Congress is confused

On the 4th of this month i.e. 4th May, the results of assembly elections were declared in four states and one union territory. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got a clear majority in Assam and West Bengal and its Chief Ministers have started work in both the places. Despite not having absolute majority, coalition governments have been formed in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. At the same time, despite the Congress-led alliance having absolute majority in Kerala, the decision on the post of Chief Minister could not be taken even after 10 days. There are many contenders for the post of Chief Minister in Congress and the party leadership has not been able to take a decision yet. Now it is being said that the name of the new Chief Minister of the state can be announced from Kerala itself on Thursday.

Some leaders are being sent to Kerala after a meeting of top party leaders held in Delhi on Wednesday. According to reports, these leaders will first talk to local MLAs and leaders and then the name of the new Chief Minister of the state will be announced. Still Ramesh Chennithala, KC Venugopal and VD Satheesan are in the race for the post of Chief Minister. However, it is also being said that now the main fight is between VD Satheesan and KC Venugopal and KC Venugopal is leading in this race. On the other hand, some statements of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) have also put this alliance into concern.

There may be a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party in Kerala on Thursday and in this meeting the leader of the Legislature Party or in other words the Chief Minister may be elected. The buzz is that considering the enthusiasm of supporters from both sides, high voltage drama is also expected on Thursday. However, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has said that the party has held complete discussions and the name of the Chief Minister will be announced on Thursday. Let us tell you that a new government will have to be formed in the state by maximum 23rd May.

Will the alliance break due to the announcement of CM’s name?

Its main ally IUML has expressed displeasure over the delay by Congress in Kerala. On Wednesday, IUML leaders said that they are waiting for the decision of the Congress and they hope that the decision will be taken soon. However, it is also being said that IUML wants to see VD Satheesan as the Chief Minister under any circumstances. Not only this, it is also being said that it is the proposal of IUML that if Satheesan does not get the post of Chief Minister, then he should not accept any other post.

This is the reason why Congress’s concern has increased further. Quoting sources, it is being said that the top leadership is in favor of making K C Venagopal the Chief Minister because most of the Congress MLAs are in his favor. However, VD Satheesan’s claim is also strong based on the number of votes of some Congress MLAs and MLAs from other alliance partners. This is the reason why the Congress leadership is in a state of confusion and no final decision has been taken yet.

What is the equation of alliance?

Kerala-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has won more than 100 seats. A total of 71 MLAs are needed to form the government in Kerala, which has 140 assemblies. Congress has won 63 MLAs and its biggest ally party IUML has won 22 MLAs. Only these two parties together make 85 MLAs. However, IUML has clearly demanded that it is in favor of making VD Satheesan the Chief Minister. IUML has clearly said that it will clarify its opinion only after the name of the Chief Minister is announced by the Congress.

In this situation, even if IUML withdraws its support, at least the Congress government will not face any problem in forming the government. The reason for this is that it will need only 8 more MLAs. 7 MLAs of Kerala Congress, who are also in UDF, have won. Apart from this, apart from 3 MLAs of Revolutionary Socialist Party, 1 MLA of Revolutionary Marxist Party, one MLA of Kerala Congress (Jacob) and one Communist Marxist Party, Congress also has the support of four independents. Thus, even without IUML, there are a total of 80 MLAs in support of Congress, which is enough to form the government.
