Will this move of Mayawati spoil the game of SP-BJP? Big stir before UP elections
With the sound of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the political chessboard has started to be laid. In this series, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has made such a big political move, which has intensified the stir in the opposition camp. Mayawati has clearly indicated that in the upcoming elections, her party is going to play a big bet on the Brahmin community and other upper classes. The BSP chief has made it clear that Brahmins will be fielded in the elections not just by making promises but by giving them a large number of tickets. After his announcement, discussions regarding new equations in the politics of the state have become heated.
In fact, in her series of statements issued on the social media platform ‘X’ on Monday, Mayawati fiercely targeted her opponents. He said that ever since BSP has started working on the strategy of making candidates from upper castes, especially people from Brahmin community, the opposition parties have lost sleep. Mayawati claims that this restlessness within the opposition is nothing but the fear of the 2007 assembly election results. In fact, the opposition is beginning to fear that if BSP’s old social engineering formula is used again, their political ground may slip.
Uneasiness in opposition due to old formula of 2007
In her message, Mayawati reminded that period in 2007 when BSP had formed a government with full majority in Uttar Pradesh due to the open support of the Brahmin community. The party believes that this alliance of Dalits and Brahmins can once again change the direction of politics in the state. He clearly said that BSP does not just do ‘lollipop politics’ or empty promises like other parties, but believes in giving respectable participation to all sections on the ground.
Not only Brahmins, but also Kshatriya and Vaishya society.
The BSP supremo also made it clear that this inclination of her party is not going to be limited to only Brahmins. Before the Uttar Pradesh elections, Mayawati expanded the scope of social engineering and said that in the upcoming elections, eligible faces of Kshatriya, Vaishya and other upper caste communities will also be given full representation. It is clear from Mayawati’s stance that this time instead of relying on any one class, she has started trying to create a broad upper caste-Dalit alliance.
Will BSP’s social engineering bear fruit?
According to political analysts, this stance of Mayawati is part of a very well thought out strategy. At present, while Samajwadi Party, BJP and Congress are busy in solving ‘PDA’ (Backward, Dalit, Minority) and other social equations, BSP has directly played its card to make inroads among the upper caste, especially Brahmin voters. Experts say that for some time now there have been reports of internal resentment within the Brahmin community regarding some issues in the politics of Uttar Pradesh. Since BJP considers this class as its traditional vote bank, Mayawati’s move is being seen as a direct attempt to break into the BJP’s fort.
Now it will be really interesting to see how much impact this social engineering of Mayawati can show in the electoral politics of Uttar Pradesh. Only time will decide whether BSP will be able to make a strong comeback to power in Lucknow on the basis of its old and tested ‘victory formula’.
