Wimbledon 2026 Results: Naomi Osaka Stuns Aryna Sabalenka; Jannik Sinner Cruises Into Quarter-Finals

The second week of Wimbledon 2026 began with two contrasting yet equally memorable performances on Centre Court. Defending men’s champion Jannik Sinner continued his title defence with another composed display, while Naomi Osaka delivered one of the biggest upsets of the tournament by knocking out world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.
While Sinner showcased the consistency and precision that have made him one of the favourites for the title, Osaka reminded the tennis world of her big-match pedigree, producing a fearless performance to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the first time in her career.
Jannik Sinner Continues Dominant Title Defence
Jannik Sinner booked his place in the last eight with a commanding 6-3, 7-6(0), 6-3 victory over Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki. Although Mochizuki tested the Italian with his unconventional style and athletic movement, Sinner remained composed throughout the contest.
The reigning champion looked comfortable in the opening set before facing his biggest challenge in the second, where Mochizuki fought back and forced a tiebreak after saving multiple break points. However, Sinner completely dominated the breaker, winning it without dropping a point before carrying the momentum into the third set.
Having arrived at Wimbledon without any grass-court preparation following his early French Open exit, the Italian has steadily improved with every match and now appears firmly on course for another deep run at the All England Club.
Naomi Osaka Produces Wimbledon’s Biggest Shock
The women’s draw witnessed a dramatic twist as Naomi Osaka defeated top seed Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 7-6(2) in one of the standout matches of the championships.
Osaka controlled the opening set with aggressive returning and consistent baseline play, leaving Sabalenka visibly frustrated as the Belarusian struggled to find her rhythm. Although the second set proved much more competitive, the Japanese star held her nerve in the tiebreak to seal one of the biggest victories of her comeback.
The triumph marks Osaka’s maiden Wimbledon quarter-final appearance since returning to professional tennis and ends Sabalenka’s remarkable unbeaten run in Grand Slam tiebreaks. With defending champion Iga Swiatek and several other top contenders already out of the tournament, Osaka’s victory has further transformed the women’s title race into one of the most open in recent years.
Osaka will next face Karolina Muchova as she continues her quest for a first Wimbledon crown, while Sinner remains firmly on track to defend his title and lift a second championship at the All England Club.
