Ranchi: The case of alleged rape of a Bangladeshi woman living in the detention center located in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand has raised serious questions. An FIR has been registered against three policemen in the case and they have been suspended. The sealed report presented in the court by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) also mentions the rape of the woman by three policemen.
During the hearing of the case, Jharkhand High Court asked many questions to the state government on keeping the woman in custody for a long time. The court asked that when the woman was sentenced to three years in 2021 in the Foreigners Act case and had completed the sentence, then why was she kept in the detention center even after this. The court also wanted to know why he was not sent to Bangladesh on time.
The woman ran away from the center in 2025
According to the state government, two cases were registered against the woman in the year 2018. Of these, one was related to child kidnapping and the other to the Alien Act. In the kidnapping case, he received a two-year sentence, while in the alien act case, he was sentenced to three years in 2021. After this he was sent to the detention center of Hazaribagh.
The woman had escaped from the detention center in the year 2025. After this, another case was registered against him under the Foreigners Act. He was acquitted in this case in 2026. The High Court questioned that when the woman was acquitted in this case, why did the government not appeal against that order.
Claim of attempt to send it to Bangladesh from 2023
During the hearing, the state government told that correspondence is being done with the Ministry of External Affairs from the year 2023 to send the woman to Bangladesh, but no response has been received yet. On this, the High Court has asked the Central Government advocate to file a reply in this regard.
The court has also directed to provide necessary facilities to the woman while she is in the detention center. The next hearing of the case will be on October 15, 2026.
The investigation into the rape allegations is ongoing and action has been taken against three policemen. The High Court has sought answers from the Central and State Government regarding the delay in the custody of the woman and sending her to Bangladesh.
