Big salary, small thinking? In viral video, woman tells how high salary becomes ‘financial trap’

Nidhi Kushwaha viral video: For years, earning ₹1 lakh a month has been considered a major financial achievement. But a woman’s post has challenged this thinking, arguing that by 2026 this figure will become ‘the biggest trap’. In a video shared on Instagram, Nidhi Kushwaha said that although a monthly salary of ₹ 1 lakh provides financial comfort, it can also stop people from moving forward.

According to Kushwaha, this gives a false sense of security of income. Generally, a monthly income of ₹1 lakh is enough to cover rent, bills, weekend outings, going on a holiday once or twice a year and meeting most of the daily needs. However, he believes that this salary level in 2026 is ‘dangerous’. Not because it is too low, but because it provides a level of comfort that can prevent people from achieving big goals.

He said this comfort can gradually reduce the desire to explore new opportunities, change careers, start a business or take calculated risks. Kushwaha explained that when people feel that their lives are “set,” they often stop thinking about what else they want to achieve. According to him, this feeling of satisfaction can silently stunt personal and professional growth, even if he doesn’t realize it at the time.

In the caption of the video, he wrote, ‘Getting ₹ 1 lakh every month gives a feeling of security. Actually this is the problem. Most people stay stuck in one place for years, not because of lack of ability, but because they do not feel any restlessness or challenge.

This video quickly went viral on social media and mixed reactions came out from the people. Some people said that the value of ₹1 lakh is no longer what it used to be, especially in big cities where the cost of living is very high. While some people believed that a comfortable life can sometimes make a person careless, others argued that progress does not just mean earning more money and economic stability can be a worthwhile goal in itself.

One user commented, ‘Don’t pay attention to every advice you get on Instagram, you have worked hard to reach this point. You have every right to use this money wisely, invest it in the right place and enjoy it with your loved ones.’ Another user said, ‘Moving ahead in life does not always mean running after money.’
