Women’s fun! Gas cylinder is available for just this much rupees, government gives big relief

Recently a very big and shocking announcement has been made by the government. Even though there has been a huge surge in the prices of LPG in the international market in the month of June due to the huge crisis and tension in West Asia, despite this, a hidden subsidy of more than Rs 700 is being given on a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in the country, so that there is not much burden on the pockets of common customers and the retail prices remain within their budget.

Speaking during a discussion in Parliament, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi made it clear that the government is fully prepared and is ensuring that the common man of the country does not have to directly bear the brunt of the high prices in the global gas market.

What is the real and hidden price of the cylinder?

Amidst the worldwide uncertainties and geopolitical tensions, if calculated today, the actual market price of a 14.2 kg domestic gas cylinder is more than Rs 1,600. Despite this, the general public is able to buy it at a very affordable price i.e. only Rs 942. To completely bridge this huge price gap and save the kitchen budget of common families from breaking, the government and the country’s state oil companies together are incurring a loss of more than Rs 700 per cylinder.

Information was also given by the ministry that after the increase in conflict in West Asia, LPG prices had gone up globally. Talking about the international benchmark of LPG i.e. Saudi Contract Price (Saudi CP), it had increased to US$ 780 per metric ton in April and May 2026 and in the month of June, it had further jumped to a record level of US$ 796 per metric ton. If these international rates were directly calculated, then the price of a normal domestic LPG cylinder in the month of June should have been directly Rs 1,695. To compensate for this huge subsidy burden, a total payment of Rs 30,000 crore has also been made to government oil companies during the financial years 2025-26 and 2026-27.

Beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme get double benefit

The beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which is being run for the poor women of the country, are being given many times more relief by the government. These consumers get a direct subsidy of Rs 300 from the government, which is transferred directly to their bank accounts. Apart from this, they also get the benefit of indirect subsidy of Rs 700 mentioned above. This simply means that they are getting a huge benefit of up to Rs 1,000 on each cylinder, due to which Ujjwala beneficiaries get the gas cylinder for only Rs 642.

What is the latest rate of LPG in your city today?

There has been no change in the prices of LPG cylinders across the country today. The prices of cylinders of both domestic and commercial categories have remained stable at the previous level. As a result, the price of domestic LPG cylinder in the country’s capital Delhi is Rs 942, while the commercial cylinder is available for Rs 2,930. Similarly, if we talk about the financial capital Mumbai, the prices of domestic and commercial cylinders there are Rs 941.50 and Rs 2,882 respectively. Apart from this, the price of domestic cylinder in Bengaluru city is running at Rs 948.50 and the price of commercial cylinder is at Rs 3,006.
