World Cup Final 2026: FIFA changes 96 year old tradition, special championship ring with trophy; Know who will be the coach
New York. FIFA has taken a big decision to make the 2026 World Cup more memorable. The organization has announced that this time the team that wins the World Cup will be awarded special championship rings along with the traditional trophy and gold medals. This will be the first time that FIFA World Cup winning players will be given rings along with the trophy. These rings will be distributed after the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina to be held at the New York-New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.
2,026 limited edition rings ready
A total of 2,026 limited edition numbered championship rings have been produced to commemorate the 2026 World Cup, FIFA said. 30 of these rings will be given to players and members of the winning team, while the remaining 1,996 rings will be made available to fans around the world as officially licensed memorabilia. One side of each ring will feature the FIFA World Cup trophy, while the other side will be specially designed and customized for the winning team.
Initiative inspired by North America’s sports tradition
With the introduction of championship rings, FIFA has linked North America’s sporting culture to the World Cup. In America’s major professional sports such as the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL, there is a long-standing tradition of giving commemorative rings along with trophies to champion teams. Now the same tradition will be seen on the biggest stage of football also.
Only eight countries have won the World Cup
In the 96-year history of the World Cup, only eight countries have won the title so far. This time too, there will be no new champion, because both Spain and Argentina, who are facing each other in the final, have been world champions before. The most successful team is Brazil, which has won the World Cup a record five times. After this, Germany and Italy have won four titles each, Argentina three, France and Uruguay two each, while Spain and England have won the title once each.
