Sahil Rajesh Jadhav secured his first Archery World Cup medal, winning the bronze in men’s individual compound in Stage 2 Shanghai on Saturday.
The reigning World University Games Champion defeated Denmark’s Martin Damsbo 147-144 to win his maiden medal in his debut season.
Playing in just his 3rd senior international tournament, the 25-year-old Jadhav shot his personal best of 711 in the ranking round to be ranked the eighth seed.
He continued his good form in the elimination rounds, knocking out his senior compatriot Abhishek Verma and the former world Champion Nico Wiener of Austria.
He, however, fell short 146-147 in the semi-final to the reigning world champion Nicolas Girard of France on the last shot, but later bounced back with a medal.
India will have two more medal chances on Sunday in recurve archery, as the Indian women’s team reached the final and Simranjeet Kaur will continue her campaign in individual semi-finals.
