Vingroup, Vietnam’s largest private conglomerate, made the official naming announcement on Thursday. The stadium was previously known by working titles such as Lac Viet, Trong Dong and Hung Vuong.
Many stadiums in the world are named after car manufacturers through naming rights in sponsorship contracts. For example, Mercedes-Benz is the name of two stadiums in Atlanta, USA (capacity 83,000 seats) and in Stuttgart, Germany (over 60,000 seats).
The VinFast Stadium, located in Zone B of the expansive Hanoi International Sports Complex project, will officially claim the title of the world’s largest stadium by capacity upon completion.
Construction of the stadium started on a site of over 70 hectares in late 2025. The main structure, along with its supporting facilities and surrounding infrastructure, is rapidly taking shape. The stadium is expected to be completed and operational by July 2027.
According to Vingroup, VinFast Stadium is designed to be one of the greenest and smartest stadiums in the world.
The construction will integrate AI technology into its daily operations. This includes an automated system capable of entirely replacing the pitch in just 6 to 10 hours, a smart seating network connected via 5G, and real-time crowd control and security management.
The stadium’s design also prioritizes sustainability. Advanced water recovery and reuse solutions are expected to save up to 70% of clean water consumption. Natural ventilation systems, combined with heat-resistant and UV-resistant materials, will reduce the stadium’s overall energy consumption, ensuring a sustainable operating model.
The Hanoi International Sports City covers over 9,100 hectares. With a total projected investment exceeding VND925,000 billion (US$35.21 billion), the development aims to be capable of hosting major international sporting events such as the Asian Games and the Olympics in the future.
