Wrestler Vinesh Phogat got a big shock: WFI sent show cause notice, barred from participating in national wrestling.
Gonda, Amrit Thoughts: Just 24 hours before the three-day National Open Ranking Wrestling competition starting from Sunday at Nandininagar Sports Stadium in the district, female wrestler Vinesh Phogat has suffered a big shock. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has issued a show cause notice barring him from participating in the competition. In this notice issued on Saturday afternoon, clarification has been sought from Vinesh Phogat on many serious allegations.
WFI has made it clear that the final decision on their participation in the competition will be taken only after receiving the reply. Vinesh will have to give her reply within 14 days. The notice has been sent by the Indian Wrestling Association through their registered address, email ID and speed post, so that there can be no dispute about not receiving the notice later.
In the notice issued by the Indian Wrestling Association, many serious allegations have been made against Vinesh Phogat. These include comeback after announcing retirement, indiscipline and conduct damaging the image of Indian wrestling. The association has also included in the notice the issue of not reaching the prescribed weight limit for the Paris Olympics 2024. WFI says that this has caused embarrassment to Indian wrestling. Apart from this, allegations of repeated violation of the constitution and rules of the Indian Wrestling Association have also been made.
The notice also includes a case of violation of anti-doping rules. The notice, issued under the signature of Indian Wrestling Association National President Sanjay Singh, states that Vinesh Phogat had missed a mandatory test on December 18, 2025, which was informed by the International Testing Agency (ITA) through a letter sent on May 4, 2026. Along with this, it has been alleged that he violated the competition rules by participating in both the 50 kg and 53 kg categories in the selection trial held at NIS Patiala on March 11, 2024.
Allegation was made regarding the competition organized in Gonda
Vinesh Phogat has already raised questions on the Indian Wrestling Association regarding this competition to be held in Gonda. He had alleged that his registration was being hindered. However, WFI had claimed that they had already been registered before making the allegations. After this, Vinesh had released a video saying, “Wrestling is taking place in the area of Brij Bhushan, I do not feel safe there. If anything happens to me, the government will be responsible.” The Indian Wrestling Association had rejected his allegations at that time. Now, after the issue of show cause notice, the matter has become more heated.
