IPL-19: After the attacks of Gill-Sudarshan, Rashid defeated RR, GT moved to second place with fourth consecutive win.

Jaipur, 9 May. After the aggressive half-centuries of captain Shubman Gill (84 runs, 44 balls, three sixes, nine fours) and his opening partner Sai Sudarshan (55 runs, 36 balls, two sixes, six fours) in the Pink City on Saturday night, the lethal bowling of Afghan leg break googly specialist Rashid Khan (4-33) and his fellow bowlers proved too heavy for Rajasthan Royals (RR). In this sequence, Gujarat Titans (GT) not only tasted a huge defeat of 77 runs to the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL-19) hosts but also strengthened their chances of reaching the playoffs by jumping to second place in the points table with their fourth consecutive win.

Shubman-Gill scored 118 runs in 66 balls, highest score of Titans outside Ahmedabad.

Opting to bat first at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, the Titans scored a strong score of 229 runs for four wickets with the explosive partnership of 118 runs between Gill and Sai in just 66 balls and then the quick work of Washington Sundar (37 runs not out, 20 balls, three sixes, two fours) and Rahul Tewatia (14 runs not out, four balls, two sixes). This was not only Gujarat’s highest score in the current season but also became its highest score in the league outside Ahmedabad.

Rashid, Holder and Rabada kept Rajasthani team under control

In front of a difficult target, the trio of ‘Player of the Match’ Rashid Khan, Jason Holder (3-12) and Kagiso Rabada (2-33) kept Rajasthan Royals in check, whose innings collapsed for 152 runs in 16.3 overs. During this period, only Ravindra Jadeja (38 runs, 25 balls, two sixes, three fours), Vaibhav Suryavanshi (36 runs, 16 balls, three sixes, three fours) and Dhruv Jurel (24 runs, 10 balls, three sixes, one four) could go above 20 runs.

Gujarati team’s biggest win in IPL in terms of runs

With their biggest win in the IPL in terms of runs, Gill and company not only managed to improve their net run rate but also jumped from fifth to second place in the table by collecting 14 points from their seventh win in 11 matches. In the same sequence, the Titans also settled the account of the defeat in the first encounter of the current season against Rajasthan on April 4 at home. After second consecutive defeat at home and fifth defeat in 11 matches, Royals (12 points) slipped to fifth place. Currently, Punjab Kings (13 points) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (12 points) are at third and fourth position respectively.

Suryavanshi returned in the third over after showing initial pace.

Chasing a relatively difficult target, Rajasthan got off to a flying start when Suryavanshi bowled the ball in the first two overs. Gave Royals a fast start by hitting sixes against Siraj (1-55) and Rabada. He also hit three fours in the third over against Siraj, but hit the experienced bowler’s bouncer in the air and Arshad Khan completed an easy catch (1-38). Yashasvi Jaiswal (three runs), who was commanding the team in this match due to injury to regular captain Riyan Parag, got caught by Nishant Sindhu off Rabada’s ball in the very next over.

Jurel took the score to 78 runs in the powerplay.

However, these wickets had no effect on Jurel and he scored 22 runs from the fifth over by hitting three sixes and one four against Siraj. However, Rabada gave the third blow to the Royals by dismissing Shimron Hetmyer (six) cheaply from the other end. On the other hand, Jadeja hit a six and a four as soon as he came to the crease, due to which Rajasthan scored 78 runs for three wickets in the powerplay.

Rajasthani team faltered after a strong position of 82 runs in 7 overs.

At the same time, the host team was completely in the match till the score of 82 runs for three wickets in seven overs. At present, Rashid established Titans’ dominance over the match by bowling Jurel and Donova Ferreira (four runs) in his first over itself. After losing five wickets in eight overs, Jadeja and Shubham Dubey (15 runs, 14 balls, one six, one four), who came to the crease, batted carefully in the next few overs.

Dubey tried to reduce the pressure by hitting a six against Rashid, but was bowled on the very next ball. Jadeja also succeeded in hitting a six on Rashid after struggling for some time, but was out LBW on the very next ball. Due to this the hopes of the Royals were completely dashed. Holder completed the formalities of victory by dismissing Dasun Shanaka (16 runs, 11 balls, two fours), Joffra Archer (five runs) and Tushar Deshpande (one run).

GT equals its best powerplay score in IPL history

Earlier in Gujarat’s innings, Gill, despite having trouble in his left leg, started attacking from the beginning and he also got good support from Sudarshan. Both of them scored their fourth fifty of the current season on 30-30 balls. The impact of the pace of Sudarshan and Gill, who had also scored a century in the current season, was such that 82 runs were scored in the powerplay. This became his highest powerplay score in IPL 2026. The score was also equal to the franchise’s best powerplay total in the history of IPL.

Gujarat had scored 108 runs in nine overs without losing any wicket. Well, Yash Raj Punja (1-37) got the first success for Rajasthan in the 11th over, when he broke a big partnership by dismissing Sudarshan. Jos Buttler (13 runs, 10 balls) also gave away the wicket of Jadeja (1-34) in an attempt to increase the run rate.

On the other hand, Gill, who was showing aggressive style, also got two lives on his personal score of 54 and 61, when Hetmyer dropped his catches both the times. Ultimately medium pacer Brijesh Sharma (2-47) stopped Gill’s innings. At present, Sundar and Tewatia showed their sharp hand in the last moments and gave the team its highest score in the current season.
