Yamal Celebrates Family After Spain’s 3-0 Win Over Austria
Lamine Yamal spoke about the happiness his success brings to his family after Spain’s commanding 3-0 victory over Austria in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 on July 3. The 18-year-old winger, whose younger half-brother Keyne was seen enthusiastically supporting Spain during the match, highlighted that nothing means more to him than seeing his brother happy as La Roja progressed to the last 16.
Addressing the media following the win, Yamal said, “It emotions me to see my brother happy, to see my mother with the life she’s always wanted to live, and my friends. It’s a child’s biggest dream beyond football. My brother is like my son, and I’m in love with him,” according to El Larguer.
He also commented on the importance of representing Spain at the tournament and his aspiration to win the World Cup. “It’s the biggest tournament in football. I don’t think there’s anything better than a World Cup. At the end, when a kid dreams of playing football, the dream is to play with your national team in the World Cup, and I am here. So, I’m thinking about advancing to the next round and fulfilling my dream of winning a World Cup with Spain,” he said, as reported by DAZN Football.
On the field, Spain dominated Austria, confirming their status as tournament favourites. After several early chances, Spain opened the scoring late in the first half when Marc Cucurella provided a precise cross for Mikel Oyarzabal, who scored calmly. Alex Baena nearly increased the lead before half-time but hit the crossbar with a free-kick.
Austria struggled to challenge Spain after the break, with Luis de la Fuente’s team maintaining possession and control. Pedro Porro scored his first international goal heading in Baena’s cross to make it 2–0, while Oyarzabal completed his brace late in the match by converting another assist from Cucurella.
Spain’s defense remained strong, securing another clean sheet as Austria failed to mount a significant comeback despite introducing Sasa Kalajdzic in the second half.
This comprehensive win propels Spain into the Round of 16 with momentum, having not conceded a goal in the tournament so far. They will face the winners of the Portugal-Croatia match next. Austria’s World Cup run ended after reaching the knockout stage for the first time since 1954.
