Yogi government’s big gift to workers, they will get free treatment worth Rs 5 lakh; Said- Now there will be no robbery on the ration of the poor
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has spread smiles on the faces of lakhs of workers and laborers of the state on the occasion of International Labor Day. During a special program organized in the capital Lucknow, the Chief Minister made a big announcement of free health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh for 15 lakh registered workers of the state. This announcement is being seen as a big security blanket for those families, who often get trapped in the debt trap due to huge treatment expenses.
During the programme, the Chief Minister’s style appeared quite aggressive as well as emotional. He not only launched a series of welfare schemes for the workers, but also fiercely targeted the tenure of the previous governments and the corruption prevalent during that period. The CM said in a clear tone that now Uttar Pradesh has changed and it is impossible to rob the rights of the poor here.
‘Those who committed robbery on ration are now in jail’
During his address, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared a very personal and bitter experience while remembering the old times. He said, “We have seen in our childhood how poor laborers were made to work, but when it was time to pay, they were sent back empty handed.” Adding further, the Chief Minister said that earlier the ration mafia and middlemen used to steal the share of the poor, but today the situation has completely changed.
Actually, the Chief Minister was referring to the period when complaints of large-scale rigging in the Public Distribution System (PDS) were common. Giving a stern warning, he said, “Today, whoever tries to steal the rights of the poor is directly sent to jail. There is no room left for corruption in Uttar Pradesh now.”
Workers got respect: toolkit and digital power
This occasion of Labor Day was not limited to announcements only. The Chief Minister symbolically honored 5 workers by calling them on the stage. These workers were provided toolkits, helmets for safety, bags for essential items and tablets to connect with modernity from the government. In fact, the intention of the government is not only to secure these workers financially but also to make them technically competent so that they can get information about new schemes directly.
It is being told that through these toolkits, masons, plumbers and other construction workers will be helped in improving their skills. The government’s objective behind distributing helmets and safety equipment is to reduce workplace accidents and increase safety awareness.
New outline of labor welfare in UP
After the implementation of this health insurance scheme, about 15 lakh workers of UP will be able to get cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh on the lines of Ayushman Bharat. The government’s argument is that at the time of illness, a poor family’s savings get wiped out, to prevent this, this ‘health insurance’ will prove to be the biggest weapon. The aim of the state government is to bring under the ambit of social security every person in the state who is contributing to the building of the state by toiling in the unorganized sector.
Local experts believe that this step of the Yogi government is a direct attempt to tap the vote bank and labor force linked to the land. There is a large section of workers in the state who have been struggling for basic facilities, hence the insurance amount of Rs 5 lakh is no less than a boon for them.
At the end of the program, the Chief Minister also made it clear that the schemes of the state government are not being made considering any caste or religion, but considering the need. He gave strict instructions to the administration that negligence in labor welfare schemes will not be tolerated at any level. It is clear that the Yogi government is now working on that model of development where even the person standing at the last rung of the society can be made to feel a part of the system.
