Yogi government’s grand plan for children’s safety in summer! Strict guidelines issued for schools, even a slight mistake will cost heavily
As the scorching heat and heat wave increases in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government has taken a very strict step regarding the safety of school students. The basic education department of the state has released ‘Teachers Guideline-2026’. Under this, school teachers will now be given complete training to prevent heatwave, recognize its initial symptoms and provide immediate first aid to children. The clear objective of the government is that the schools of the state should not only remain the center of education, but should also emerge as the safest place to save the lives of children in times of crisis.
This special guideline has been prepared on the strict instructions of Additional Chief Secretary (Basic and Secondary Education) Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma. In this, strict instructions have been given to prepare ‘School Heat Action Plan’ at every school level of the state, spread awareness on a large scale and ensure strong arrangements to deal with any emergency.
UP Heatwave Alert: Why did this new guideline have to be issued?
In Uttar Pradesh, the mercury usually crosses 45 degrees Celsius between the months of April and June, due to which there is a huge increase in the cases of heat stroke and heat stroke. The biggest impact of this deadly heat is on innocent children, because compared to adults, children’s body gets heated very quickly and they are often not able to openly express their problems or the changes taking place in their body.
Yogi government has made it clear that school teachers will prove to be the most important link in this war against heat. Now, from morning assembly to classroom, sports and every day-to-day activity, teachers will teach children unique ways to stay completely safe from heatwave.
What are the major and stringent provisions of the new guidelines?
Making school heat action plan mandatory
Now every school in the state will have to compulsorily prepare its own ‘School Heat Action Plan’. Under this, special ‘Health Nodal Teachers’ will be appointed in schools, who will keep a direct eye on the health of the children. Along with this, orientation programs will be run for teachers, school staff and students. Big posters related to awareness will be put up at main places of the school campus, in which complete information about ‘what to do and what not to do’ will be written in very simple language.
Restrictions on school timings and outdoor activities
According to the new guidelines, morning prayer assembly, sports, physical education and any kind of outdoor activities will have to be completed before 10 am in any case. If Orange or Red heatwave alert is issued by the Meteorological Department (IMD), all heavy physical activities involving children will be completely stopped. Apart from this, mid-day meal will be served to children only in shady and cool places.
Special emphasis will be given on water and hydration
It is clearly stated in the guidelines that clean and safe drinking water should be available 24 hours in schools. It will be the responsibility of teachers to continuously encourage children to drink water every 20 to 30 minutes. Along with this, the guidelines also say to encourage children to eat water-rich seasonal fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumber and cucumber.
There will be major improvement in the infrastructure of schools
Elaborate arrangements for ventilation, fans and coolers will be made in the school classrooms. Emphasis has been laid on planting more and more shade trees in school campuses, using cool roof technology and reflective paint on roofs, so that the rooms remain cool. Children have also been advised to wear light colored cotton clothes and use a hat or umbrella while going out in the sun.
Heat stress symptoms and immediate first aid
In this government guideline, the symptoms of heat stroke have been explained in detail, such as excessive sweating, extreme thirst, severe headache, dizziness, feeling of weakness and severe muscle cramps. Apart from this, vomiting, mental confusion or sudden fainting are also its major symptoms.
In such a situation, for treatment, the child will have to be immediately removed from the sunlight and taken to a cool and shady place. A cold water compress will have to be placed on his body and ORS solution will have to be given to him immediately. If the situation becomes serious, you will have to contact 108 ambulance service or the nearest health center without any delay.
Special and sick children will be closely monitored
The school administration will keep a special eye on special children suffering from asthma, heart disease, diabetes, obesity or any kind of disability. Along with this, teachers will have to pay extra attention to the health of children who have recently returned to school after recovering from high fever or diarrhea.
Parents will also have to play their important role
In this guideline, parents have also been given special advice to give adequate amount of water or liquid diet to their child before sending them to school in the morning. If the child is feeling even slightly ill or uncomfortable, instead of sending him to school, keep him at home and adopt all strong measures to protect against heatwave even inside the house.
Big awareness campaign will be run in schools and first aid kit will be necessary
Now informative posters of ‘what to do-what not to do’ will be prominently visible on the walls in all the schools of Uttar Pradesh. The school administration will constantly keep a close eye on the weather alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). All schools will have to keep complete written records of every small and big incident related to heatwave. For this, regular review meetings and mock drills will also be organized from time to time. Along with this, every school will always have to be ready with an advanced first aid kit, adequate pouches of ORS, digital thermometer and a list of all emergency contact numbers including 108 ambulance.
Effect of extreme heat on children’s delicate body
Often, extreme heat causes serious problems in children like dehydration (lack of water), heat exhaustion (fatigue) and life-threatening heat stroke. Due to heat, children’s education is also adversely affected, due to which they become extremely tired and irritable. Since children’s bodies heat up much faster than adults and they lose water quickly through sweat, it is very important to take the right steps at the right time.
Successful examples of other states and priorities of Yogi government
Such school heat action plans have already been successfully implemented in other extremely hot states of the country such as Delhi, Rajasthan, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. Now this big initiative of Uttar Pradesh government is going to become a new example for the entire country.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government has always kept the good health of students along with education as its top priorities. This new guideline is not only for this current summer season, but it is a strong start to a larger awareness campaign lasting long into the future. The Uttar Pradesh government’s ‘Teachers Guideline-2026’ is indeed a very visionary step, which proves that the government does not want to limit education to just bookish knowledge, but also wants to teach life-saving skills to children.
