Lucknow. The state government is preparing to take another big decision to cater to half the population in the election year. A proposal has been prepared to increase the honorarium of Anganwadi workers and assistants by 50 percent. Under this, the honorarium of Anganwadi workers will be increased from Rs 8 thousand to Rs 12 thousand and that of helpers will be increased from Rs 4 thousand to Rs 6 thousand per month. The proposal of the Department of Child Development Services and Nutrition may soon get cabinet approval.

This decision will benefit about 1.89 lakh Anganwadi workers and 1.67 lakh assistants of the state. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced a respectable increase in his honorarium in April itself. In continuation of this, the department has prepared a proposal, on which consent has been received at the level of Finance, Personnel, and Justice Departments.
The increase in honorarium is expected to put an additional financial burden of more than Rs 3 thousand crore annually on the state government treasury. The special thing is that the entire additional burden of the proposed increase will be borne by the state government itself and no financial assistance will be received from the central government for this.
The honorarium will be this much
At present Anganwadi workers get an honorarium of Rs 8,000 per month. In this, the share of the Central Government is Rs 4500 and that of the State Government is Rs 3500. According to the proposal, the state government will increase its share from Rs 3500 to Rs 5500, taking the total honorarium to Rs 12,000. Similarly, the state government will increase its share in the honorarium of assistants by Rs 2,000 and they will get a total of Rs 6,000 per month.

Increased focus on women voters
This possible decision of the government is being seen not only as an economic relief, but also as a strategy to woo women voters in the election year. The network of Anganwadi workers and assistants extends from villages to urban localities. By providing relief to this large section of women who have been demanding honorarium hike for a long time, the government will get an opportunity to highlight its women empowerment and welfare works.
