‘You cannot become Aladdin…’ Siddharth Nigam narrated the story of insult on type casting
Tezzbuzz Desk – Typecasting is considered a common challenge in the TV industry, where actors are judged on the basis of their past roles. A similar experience happened to actor Siddharth Nigam, who had gained immense popularity in the early stages of his career.
Siddharth became a household name by playing the powerful character of Ashoka in Chakravarti Ashoka Samrat. However, this success also created a new problem for him: typecasting.
Had to face perception in audition
Recently in an interview, Siddharth told that when he was auditioning for Aladdin Naam Toh Suna Hoga, an opinion was already formed about him. A casting person said that Siddharth is not fit for the role as he has recently played a serious and aggressive character, whereas the character of Aladdin is light-hearted, flirtatious and comic in nature.
‘Not me, my character was aggressive’
Recalling this experience, Siddharth said that at that time he was sitting with the director and was listening to all this. He did not express displeasure about this, but smilingly thought that people are often not able to differentiate between the character and the real personality.
He said, “I am not aggressive, my character was aggressive. I played the role of Ashok, but I do not let that image become my real identity.”
New beginning with every character
Siddharth believes that the real strength of an artist is that he can reinvent himself with every new role. He said that the character of Ashok is a big achievement for him, of which he is proud, but he does not want it to become the permanent identity of his career.
He further said that every new project is a new beginning for him, where he leaves behind the old image and tries to learn and show something new.
