On the occasion of the 119th birth anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, a program was organized under the aegis of Son Chetna Social Organization at Hanuman Temple, Subhash Square on Monday. Under the leadership of the organization's founder Abhishek Agrahari, the youth paid tribute to Bhagat Singh by offering flowers on his portrait and kept a two-minute silence to remember his sacrifice. During this, the intersection echoed with slogans of Vande Mataram, Bharat Mata Ki Jai and Inquilab Zindabad.
The life of Bhagat Singh and his contribution in the freedom struggle were discussed in the programme. Speakers said that incidents like Jallianwala Bagh massacre, lathi charge on Lala Lajpat Rai during the Simon Commission protest and his death influenced the background of Bhagat Singh's revolutionary life. Later, along with his comrades, he carried forward the struggle against British rule. He evaded arrest after throwing a bomb along with Batukeshwar Dutt in the Central Legislative Assembly on 8 April 1929, while he was hanged along with Rajguru and Sukhdev on 23 March 1931.
Speakers said that today there is a need that the life and thoughts of Bhagat Singh should not be limited to books only but should be made available to the youth and inspiration should be drawn from his struggle. On this occasion, Amit Bansal, Shubham Singh alias Surya, Happy Aggarwal, Gopal Patel, Siddhant Patel, Ashu Yadav, Manish Yadav, Raj Sonkar, Ratnesh Agrahari, Vikas Pathak and others were present.
