Zelensky’s warning came true! Russia attacked many cities including the capital of Ukraine with ballistic missiles
New Delhi: The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has once again reached a dangerous turn. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned of a major Russian attack just hours earlier, and his warning soon proved true. Early Thursday morning, Russia attacked several major cities including the capital Kiev with ballistic and cruise missiles. At least one person has been confirmed dead in this attack, while people in many areas had to take shelter in safe places.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia attacked in several phases. Cruise missiles were fired from strategic bombers, while missiles were also launched from the Novorossiysk region of southern Russia. Apart from the capital Kyiv, Dnipro and Kryvyi Rih were also hit by attacks. Local administration said that one person has died in Kiev and damage has been reported in many areas.
Metro station became a refuge for people
During the attack, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko appealed to people not to come out of their homes and stay in safe bunkers. In the videos that surfaced on social media, a large number of families were seen taking shelter in metro stations. Many people sat with children on blankets spread on the floor, while some spent the night in makeshift tents.
Zelensky had already warned
A few hours before the attacks, President Zelensky had said that he had received information from the Air Force that there was a possibility of a large-scale Russian air attack. He had told that Russia is preparing for a massive attack. Earlier, Zelensky had met US President Donald Trump at the White House and demanded to provide additional air defense system to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.
F-16 plane crashes during mission
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force confirmed that on July 29, an F-16 fighter plane suffered a technical fault during a mission. After losing contact with the plane, the pilot saved his life by ejecting safely. He has been sent to the hospital for medical examination. According to officials, there is no report of injury to any citizen or damage to property in this accident. Investigation of the matter is ongoing.
Both Russia and Ukraine made counter claims
According to Russian media reports, Andrei Cherezov, founder of drone manufacturing company Russian Air Transport Laboratory, was shot by an unknown assailant in Tula city. He has been taken to the hospital in injured condition and investigation is ongoing. At the same time, Ukraine’s security agencies have claimed that its army has carried out drone attacks on two major oil refineries of Russia. Ukraine says that by targeting these bases an attempt has been made to affect Russia’s energy supply and military capability. The ever-increasing situation of war has further increased the tension in the entire region.
