Zero Child Marriage Day campaign started on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya

On Saturday, 18-04-2026, in collaboration with Sonbhadra Vikas Samiti Sonbhadra and Child Rights and You, Zero Child Marriage Day campaign was run in the villages of Kukrahi, Hardihwa, Amauli, Raipura and Odhiya of the organization’s work area to prevent and create awareness about possible child marriages taking place on Akshaya Tritiya and to realize the objective of ‘Child Marriage Free India’.
In which it was told that due to child marriage, young girls have to face financial, mental and physical torture. It also has a negative impact on their education, health and better future. The administration has urged all social organizations, women’s groups, village heads, Anganwadi workers, Asha daughters-in-law, teachers and social workers to keep active vigil in their respective areas.
They have been asked to immediately pass on any information about child marriage to the administration. Organization Secretary Rajesh Choubey appealed to take active participation in stopping child marriage and while giving information about the helpline number for the convenience of the people, he said that if the information about child marriage is received then it can be given immediately on 181, 1098 and 112. He also told that if the age of the girl is 18 years and the age of the boy is less than 21 years, then such marriage comes under the category of child marriage, which is a legal offence.
For which the administration has warned that Pandits, Maulvis, tent house operators, bands, marriage halls, confectioners, parents and other associates involved in arranging child marriages will all be considered guilty. And under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006, the culprits can be punished with imprisonment of up to two years, a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh or both. The administration has also assured that the identity of the person giving information will be kept completely confidential.
The district administration has also appealed to the people to take active participation in stopping child marriage to secure the future of girls. Social worker Sunita told that along with prevention of child marriage, it was also told about prevention of communicable diseases.
Counselor Sadhna Singh from Sonbhadra Vikas Samiti, social workers Rekha, Reena Sharma, Reema, Sunita, Dinesh Kumar Coordinator, Anganwadi workers and a large number of children, adolescent girls and women were present in the awareness campaign.
