Amritsar: Everyone would have heard of ‘langar’, a community kitchen run in a gurdwara that serves free vegetarian meals to all visitors, irrespective of their religion, caste, gender, or social status.
Now, brace for an ‘iPhone langar’, to be given away free to lucky people in Punjab.
Amritsar-based businessman and influencer Rakesh Trehan, popularly known as ‘Raja D King’, announced the ‘iPhone Langar’ where he will present Apple’s highest-selling product.
The first event will be organised on September 22, with the distribution to be done live in front of media and the public between 12 noon and 2 pm, Trehan said, adding that only iPhone 17 models and above will be given, not lower models.
A WhatsApp group has been created for the distribution of iPhones.
There is only one eligibility criterion — all members of the group have to write ‘Jai Mata Di’. The winners will be chosen from those who have written ‘Jai Mata Di’, and will be called to inform they have won a phone.
The first event is for residents of Chandigarh and Mohali, and 10 more cities are likely to be announced on September 22, said Trehan.
“There is no financial constraint. We will soon expand this initiative,” said Trehan.
He claimed to have already ordered 100 iPhone 17s and discussed arrangements for up to 1,000 iPhones. Initially, the plan is to distribute 100 iPhones in Chandigarh and 200 in Mohali.

The businessman has organised a number of community events, the most recent being ‘petrol langar’ — providing free fuel to people at select fuel stations.
Earlier, he had given Rs 500 currency notes outside a temple in Chandigarh.
Trehan is also planning to distribute coupons of Rs 500 for two-wheelers or three-wheelers, and Rs 1,000 for four-wheelers.
