New Delhi. A painful road accident has occurred in Tehri Garhwal Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. A pickup vehicle went out of control on Nail-Koti Colony road under Chamba area and fell into a ditch about 300 meters deep. In this accident, 8 passengers traveling in the pickup died while two people were injured. As soon as information about the incident was received, the local police administration reached there and started the rescue operation. SDRF team was also called for relief work. Due to the great depth of the ditch, the rescue team is facing some difficulties in the rescue.

Expressing grief over this accident, State Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami posted on Twitter, ‘Extremely sad news was received of a vehicle accident on Nail-Koti Colony road under Chamba area of Tehri Garhwal district. We pray to God to grant peace to the souls of those who died in the accident and grant strength to the bereaved family members to bear this immense suffering. Instructions have been given to the district administration for proper treatment of the injured. I pray to Baba Kedar for the recovery of the injured.

During the rescue operation, two people were pulled out alive from the ditch and were sent to the nearest hospital for treatment. Tehri District Magistrate Nitika Khandelwal also reached the spot and took stock. It is being told that this pickup vehicle was going from Bhikiyasain to Ramnagar when this accident happened on the way. The reasons for the accident are not yet known, prima facie it is believed that the accident occurred due to the driver dozing off. It is being told that all the people traveling in the pickup were returning after performing the last rites of someone they knew. DM said that all the bodies have been recovered and the news has been conveyed to their families.
