MEA Again Summons US Chargé d’Affaires Jason Meeks: India once again summons America’s CDA, protests attack on ship with Indian crew members near Oman

New Delhi. The Indian External Affairs Ministry summoned US Chargé d’Affaires (CDA) Jason Meeks in connection with the attacks on commercial ships with Indian crew members off the coast of Oman. On Thursday, Guinea-flagged cargo container ship MT Jalveer was attacked. There were 20 Indian crew members on board that ship. However, all the crew members have been rescued safely. This is the second time the Ministry of External Affairs has summoned the US mission. Earlier, the Additional Secretary (America) in the Ministry of External Affairs had summoned the American diplomat in connection with the attack on Palau-flagged MT Setebelo. Three Indian sailors died in that attack.

It was officially acknowledged by the US Army that it had targeted the MT Jalveer ship in the Gulf area. The US Army alleges that MT Jalveer was trying to transport oil from Iran via the Gulf of Oman. The ship was warned several times to stop and follow instructions but when it ignored the warnings, ‘2 Hellfire missiles’ were fired at it. The Indian Foreign Ministry had strongly condemned this incident and expressed its protest on Thursday itself.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said that there is no need to repeat this again and again that the safety of our sailors is very important for us. These attacks are very worrying and should stop immediately. India had expressed gratitude to the Government of Oman and the authorities there for the rescue of the Indian crew members aboard the ship. Let us tell you that in three days America has attacked three cargo ships MT Marvix, MT Setebello and MT Jalveer.
