CJI Surya Kant Will Not Be Chief Guest At TISS Convocation Ceremony: CJI Surya Kant Will Not Be Chief Guest At TISS Convocation Ceremony, Program Will Be Held On August 22

New Delhi. Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant will not attend the 86th convocation of Mumbai's prestigious Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) as the chief guest. Dr. CS Pramesh, Director of Tata Memorial Hospital, will be the chief guest in this function. This program of convocation will be held on 22nd August. Earlier, the convocation ceremony was to be held on August 2, in which CJI Surya Kant was to attend as the chief guest, but the program was postponed two days before the ceremony. In the official statement issued by TISS, it was said that the ceremony could not be organized in a favorable environment.

However, after the cancellation of the program, there was speculation that perhaps this decision was taken because the institute was apprehensive that some students might oppose the Chief Justice. In fact, a campaign was launched by the students against the inclusion of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court as the chief guest at the convocation ceremony of NALSAR University, Hyderabad. A letter was also written by the students to the university administration in this regard that CJI Surya Kant should not be made the chief guest. The Bar Council of India had intervened in this protest by the students and there was a lot of controversy regarding it.

BCI had said that it will not tolerate insult to CJI. On behalf of Bar Council of India President Manan Mishra, a circular was issued to the Bar Councils of all the states directing them not to enroll the students passing out from NALSAR University as lawyers. After this, while hearing the petition related to this matter, Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant had said that this is a matter of communication between me and the students, who is the BCI to interfere in this?
