New Delhi. Former Congress leader and MP Sajjan Kumar has died at the age of 84. Sajjan Kumar was sentenced to life imprisonment in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. Sajjan Kumar was kept in Tihar Jail, Delhi. Sajjan Kumar challenged the sentence in the Supreme Court, but it was rejected.

According to sources at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital, Sajjan Kumar was brought dead. Sajjan Kumar had applied for bail in the Supreme Court in April this year to meet his ailing wife, but the application was rejected. Sajjan Kumar was acquitted by the court in an anti-Sikh riots case, but convicted for his role in the murder of Jaswant Singh and his son Tarundeep Singh. Sajjan Kumar was found guilty of inciting the mob. CBI had found in the investigation that there was a conspiracy with the police to remove Sajjan Kumar's name.

Sajjan Kumar had resigned from the primary membership of Congress after being sentenced to life imprisonment by the court. Sajjan Kumar was born on 23 September 1945. Sajjan Kumar had studied only till matriculation. In 1977, Sajjan Kumar was elected councilor of Delhi Municipal Corporation. After this Sajjan Kumar was made the General Secretary of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee. In the year 1980, Sajjan Kumar was elected Lok Sabha MP by the voters of Outer Delhi.
