New Delhi. In the matter of collapse of PG hostel building in Satya Niketan area of Delhi, Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Central Government, Delhi Government, Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD), Delhi University (DU) and sought their response. The division bench of Delhi High Court comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tejas Karia said that only the building owner cannot be held responsible for this incident, MCD and Delhi University are also responsible for this. The bench said that if everyone had performed their legal responsibilities properly then this type of incident could have been prevented.
The bench has asked all concerned parties to file replies within 10 days. The court said that this incident has raised serious concerns regarding the shortage of hostels for the students of Delhi University and other colleges. The High Court asked DU that how many students take admission and how many students are provided hostels by the university? How many hostels are there for students coming from outside? Apart from this, a report has been sought from MCD regarding the buildings of PG hostels running in Delhi.
The court asked what are the rules of MCD regarding the operation of PG hostels? Along with this, the court has asked the Delhi government that such incidents are happening every second year, what efforts are being made to stop them? The bench has directed to speed up the rescue operation so that the students trapped under the debris of the building can be saved as soon as possible. The court has fixed September 25 for the next hearing of the case. Let us tell you that the building suddenly collapsed on Sunday. So far 7 people have died in this incident.
