New Delhi. Today, a bilateral meeting was held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit. Modi told Jinping that differences should not be allowed to become disputes. Modi stressed that relations between the two countries should be based on three mutual principles, mutual respect, sensitivity and mutual interest. At the same time, Jinping called upon Modi to work together. He said that China and India can learn from each other. The two leaders welcomed the steady progress made in India-China bilateral relations since their last meeting in Tianjin in August 2025.

Modi and Jinping agreed that India-China relations should be viewed from a strategic and long-term perspective. Modi said peace and stability in the border areas remains an essential foundation for the continued development of bilateral relations. He stressed the need for both sides to adhere to existing agreements on border issues. Apart from this, the need to further promote cultural exchange, business relations and movement of people between the two countries was emphasized. Both agreed to address each other's concerns related to economic and trade relations and facilitate meaningful and predictable market access.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said, in a complex international environment full of changes and challenges, China and India, as the world's two most populous countries and important members of the 'Global South', have huge responsibilities. Both sides should work together to pursue high-quality cooperation within the larger BRICS framework, keeping in mind the future of humanity and the well-being of our peoples. We must advocate for an equitable and orderly multipolar world and inclusive, mutually beneficial economic globalization. Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude for the support and cooperation received from China during India's BRICS chairmanship. Also thanked Jinping for his positive comments.
