New Delhi. The Election Commission has allotted new party names and election symbols to both the factions of the 'All India Trinamool Congress' party. The faction led by Mamata Banerjee has been named 'Mamata All India Trinamool Congress'. Mamta faction has been allotted election symbol 'Football Player'. The rebel group led by Ritabrata Banerjee has been given the name 'Democratic Trinamool Congress' and 'Envelope' election symbol. The Election Commission has directed that both these parties will be given the status of recognized political parties in West Bengal, Meghalaya and Tripura.

Earlier, while hearing the dispute between the two factions of TMC over the party's name and symbol, the Election Commission had temporarily frozen the All India Trinamool Congress and its election symbol 'two flowers on the grass'. The Election Commission had asked for new names and symbols for the party from both the parties. For this, both the factions were given time till 11 am today. After the interim order of the Election Commission, the list of names and symbols of the party was submitted by Mamata Banerjee late on Thursday night. This morning the rebel group led by Ritabrata Banerjee had also given its names and symbols to the Election Commission. According to the applications received from both the parties, the Election Commission has taken a decision on this and given a new name and new symbol to both the factions.

On behalf of Mamata Banerjee, the three names given to the Election Commission were 'Mamata All India Trinamool Congress', 'All India Trinamool Congress Mamata', and 'Trinamool Mamata Congress'. At the same time, Mamta faction had described 'football player' and 'cricket bat' as the symbols of their choice.
