India sent 13 tons of BCG vaccine aid to Afghanistan
India on Tuesday (April 14) sent 13 tonnes of BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guérin) vaccine and related materials for the ongoing child vaccination program against tuberculosis (TB) in Afghanistan. Giving information on the social media platform ‘X’, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “India has sent 13 tonnes of BCG vaccine and related materials to the Health Ministry of Afghanistan, which will strengthen the anti-TB vaccination campaign there.”
BCG vaccine comes in the form of freeze-dried (lyophilized) white powder, which is prepared by mixing with liquid (diluent) before use. This vaccine is packed in vials of 10 to 20 doses. It requires tuberculin syringe/26G needle and is stored at 2 to 8 °C temperature.
India has already helped Afghanistan many times. Due to the recent flood and earthquake, the people there had to face huge difficulties. Even at that time, India had sent humanitarian aid and disaster relief material (HADR) on 5 April. Randhir Jaiswal had said during that time that India stands in solidarity with the Afghan people. He had told that India has sent essential materials like kitchen sets, hygiene kits, plastic sheets, tarpaulins and sleeping bags.
Earlier in the month of March also, India had sent 2.5 tonnes of emergency medicines, medical materials and equipment to Afghanistan. This assistance was given for the people injured in the attack on a hospital in Kabul. According to reports, the 2000-bed ‘Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital’ located in Pul-e-Charkhi area of Kabul was targeted in this attack, in which more than 400 people died and more than 250 were injured.
