Women are understanding everything, this is not reservation but delimitation discussion: Priyanka Gandhi

The 131st Amendment Bill of the Constitution related to women’s reservation could not be passed by the Lok Sabha, regarding which All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and MP Priyanka Gandhi held a press conference. Priyanka Gandhi said that yesterday there was a big victory for democracy, the government’s conspiracy was defeated.

This was a victory for the Constitution, the unity of the country and the opposition. He said that watch the speeches of the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister; Many times he said that if you people do not agree with this then you can never sit here. This makes their intention clear.

He said that no information was given to the opposition regarding the special session. The draft was made public a day earlier, due to which the opposition does not get time. He said that in my opinion the conspiracy that was hatched was that we have to remain in power in some way or the other, if we do not do it now then we will do it in 2029 so that we remain in power forever. They felt that if it was passed, they would remain in power forever, if not, they would call the opposition anti-women and would become their messiah in front of women. But women understand everything.

He said that this was not a matter of women’s reservation bill, it was a matter of delimitation. These had to be delimited without looking at caste figures and they needed complete freedom to do as per their wish. It was not possible that the opposition would support him. He said that the country has seen how the opposition is defeated when it unites.

Priyanka Gandhi said that it is a black day for them (the government) because they have suffered a shock for the first time. Women’s problems are increasing a lot, conflicts are increasing. Women are watching everything. He said that whatever was passed unanimously in 2023, bring forward the same and give rights to women. He said that out of 543 seats, give only 33 percent seats to women. We are not taking any credit.

Priyanka Gandhi said that the people of the country have a conscience. If they have to campaign across the country, then do it openly. But today the country is not in the same situation as it was 12 years ago. They are not able to understand that India has changed. Public is losing trust in them.

Regarding delimitation, Priyanka Gandhi said that our stand is clear. The entire alliance has made its stand clear. What we are able to understand is that the bill that was brought and discussed for three days was not about women’s reservation, it was about delimitation only. We all have made our stand clear regarding this. He said that we hope that 33 percent women will contest in the coming elections.

He said that caste census should be done before delimitation and based on that. Their attempt is to form a Delimitation Commission, in which three of their own people will be appointed, like they have formed all the other commissions.

Priyanka Gandhi said what has she done in Assam and Jammu and Kashmir? The seats of the leaders of the opposition parties were divided arbitrarily, just to maintain their power. Who can trust in such a situation? The public is not trusting them. How do we trust?
