Hard landing of Air Force plane at Pune airport, runway temporarily closed
The runway at Pune airport was temporarily closed after an Indian Air Force aircraft made a hard landing late on Friday (April 17). According to officials, there is no report of any casualty or damage to civilian property in the incident. Giving information through social media, the Air Force said, “Due to an incident involving an IAF aircraft, the runway of Pune is temporarily closed. The crew of the aircraft is safe and there is no damage to any civilian property.” It was also informed that efforts are on to reopen the runway as soon as possible.
It is noteworthy that Pune airport operates on ‘dual use model’, where along with civil flights, the Air Force station is also functioning. For this reason, any incident related to the Air Force affects civilian flights also. A police officer confirmed that the IAF plane made a “hard landing”, though he did not share further details on the technical aspects of the incident.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol also confirmed the closure of the runway. “Thankfully, the aircraft crew is safe and there is no damage to any civilian property. Airlines have been informed and it may take about five hours to restore normal runway operations,” he said on social media platform X.
The minister also said that he is in constant touch with the airport director and Air Force officials, so that the situation can be normalized as soon as possible.
Flight operations were affected for some time due to the incident, but officials say all necessary steps are being taken to quickly control the situation and restore normal services.
