Two Bangladeshi women were living illegally in Rajkot for 8 years
Police have arrested two Bangladeshi women living illegally in Rajkot city of Gujarat. This action has been taken under the special campaign being run on the instructions of the State Home Department, the objective of which is to identify foreign nationals living in the state without valid documents and take action against them.
According to officials of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the police, this operation has been going on for the last 10 months. Four other Bangladeshi women were also arrested in mid-February as part of the same operation.
The latest incident came to light when a local resident of Rayya Chowkdi area informed the police helpline about two suspicious women. After receiving the information, the SOG team monitored both of them and conducted a detailed investigation for the last one week.
During the investigation, when the police asked the women for documents related to their citizenship, they could not present any valid documents. After this, he was taken into custody and interrogated by the local police and central agencies.
During interrogation, both the women reportedly admitted that they had entered India illegally about eight years ago. In the initial years, she lived in Surat for about six to seven years and later came to Rajkot and was living in Rayya Chowkdi area for the last one and a half years.
Police say that further investigation in the matter is going on and necessary legal action is being taken. Officials also indicated that this campaign against foreign nationals staying illegally will continue.
