Louisiana, April 19. Eight children aged one to 14 were killed in a mass shooting in the southern US state of Louisiana on Sunday, which authorities are calling a suspicious domestic incident. News agency AP quoted Shreveport police spokesman Christopher Bordelon as saying that the gunman was also killed during the police operation.
The attacker had reportedly opened fire at separate houses early Sunday and reportedly stole a car while trying to flee the crime scene. The police chased him and killed him.
A total of 10 people were shot in the shootings related to a domestic dispute, according to Bordelon. Two adult women were shot in the head, but survived. Meanwhile, during this chaos, a small boy got injured after jumping from the roof.
Although police have not shared any information about the gunman, Bordelon told NBC that some of the children killed were “his descendants.” He said, ‘This is a huge crime scene, the likes of which most of us have never seen before.’
Officials said they were gathering information from the crime scene, which spanned three different locations. An investigation has been launched into this incident and Shreveport Police have included Louisiana State Police detectives in the investigation. At present, no clear motive behind the crime has come to light yet.
State police said in a statement that no officers were hurt in a shooting that involved one officer following a police chase in Bossier City on Sunday morning, the AP reported. State Police are requesting anyone who has any photos, video or information related to this shooting to share it with their detectives.
