Cervical spondylitis can be controlled by lifestyle changes, know the symptoms, causes and remedies.

In today’s digital life, one has to work with one’s neck bent for hours on mobile and laptop, which leads to neck pain. In such a situation, people often take it lightly, but from a scientific point of view, not every neck pain is the same. In some cases this is due to a simple muscle strain, while other times it can be a sign of a serious condition called cervical spondylitis.

Actually, this problem is related to the upper part of the spine, which is called cervical spine. This part helps to support and rotate the head. Scientific research shows that as age increases, the bones and discs of this area start becoming weak. Apart from this, sitting in wrong posture for a long time, continuously looking at the screen and working with bent neck further aggravates this problem. Gradually this condition becomes the cause of pain and stiffness.

Talking about its symptoms, along with pain in the neck, problems like stiffness, headache, pain spreading to shoulders and hands, tingling or numbness can also occur. Many times weakness is felt in the hands due to pressure on the nerves.

Experts believe that the most effective way to control this problem is to adopt correct posture. When we sit with our neck bent for a long time, there is extra pressure on the spine. Therefore, it is important that while working, the screen should be at eye level, the back should be straight and the neck should not remain in the same position for a long time. Taking short breaks and frequently adjusting your sitting position also proves to be very helpful.

Apart from this, physical activity and exercise are also considered very important. Pain and stiffness can be reduced to a great extent by light stretching and muscle strengthening exercises.

Change in lifestyle is also necessary to deal with this problem. Avoiding lifting heavy weights, using the right pillow and mattress, keeping the body active and controlling weight are considered important for the health of the spine. Also, jerking the neck or making sudden movements should be avoided.

Doctors say that if the pain is continuously increasing, weakness or numbness is felt in the hands or normal measures do not provide relief, then a specialist should be contacted immediately.
