Importance of worshiping Ganga on Vaishakh Shukla Saptami, know the benefits of bathing and donation

Every year the holy festival of Ganga Saptami is celebrated on the seventh day of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month. According to religious beliefs, on this day Mother Ganga descended from heaven and resided in the locks of Lord Shiva. This is the reason why this date is also called Ganga Jayanti.

This year Saptami Tithi will start on 22nd April at 10:50 pm and end on 23rd April at 8:50 pm. According to Udaya Tithi, this festival will be celebrated on 23rd April.

The day of Ganga Saptami is considered a symbol of the reappearance of Mother Ganga. Worshiping Ganga, bathing and donating on this day brings happiness and prosperity in a person’s life. It is also believed that virtuous deeds done on this day provide auspicious results for many births. Mother Ganga is considered the goddess who destroys sins and grants salvation, hence worshiping her on this day is especially fruitful.

Mythological origin of Ganga ji

According to mythology, Mother Ganga originated from the feet of Lord Vishnu. At the time of Vaman incarnation, when Brahmaji anointed the feet of Lord Vishnu, Ganga appeared from that water. After this, this divine stream got absorbed in the hair of Lord Shiva and from there it flowed on the earth and became the cause of public welfare.
