Humayun Kabir Threatens Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari On Bangladeshi News Channel
A new controversy has arisen in the politics of West Bengal. Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir has given a controversial and aggressive statement about West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in an interview to a Bangladeshi media channel. Kabir openly threatened the Chief Minister and said that if any Muslim MLA or Muslim person was touched, a reply would be given.
This statement has come at a time when Suvendu Adhikari has recently taken oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on 9 May. Humayun Kabir made this comment in an interview given to Bangladeshi channel “Face the People”, where he was talking to anchor Sahifur Sagar.
During the interview, Humayun Kabir, referring to his political confrontation with Suvendu Adhikari in and outside the Assembly, said, “It was only Humayun Kabir who challenged Suvendu Adhikari inside and outside the Assembly. I had said that if you touch any Muslim MLA, I will beat you…If Suvendu touches any Muslim, we will beat Suvendu too.”

After this statement of Kabir, sharp reactions have started in political circles. Especially because this statement was made on a foreign media platform and it contained a direct threat against the Chief Minister of the state.
Humayun Kabir has previously been a Trinamool Congress MLA. He was suspended from the party in the month of December. The controversy started when he proposed to build a mosque on the lines of Babri Masjid in Beldanga area of Murshidabad. The political controversy intensified after this proposal.
Despite suspension from the party, Humayun Kabir had also organized the bhoomi pujan and foundation stone laying program for the proposed structure. According to reports, some sections of the local Muslim community had supported the initiative.
Later, Kabir formed his own political party, Janata Unnayan Party and announced to contest the West Bengal Assembly elections independently. Political analysts say that Humayun Kabir is trying to create a separate Islamic political front in the state, which can challenge both the Trinamool Congress and the BJP.
After Kabir’s latest statement, BJP leaders have called it a serious matter related to law and order and democratic decorum. Political observers believe that such a public threat against the Chief Minister may further heat up the politics of the state in the coming days.
