US Ambassador Gore said: Modi-Trump’s thinking is almost similar!
In an exclusive interview to IANS at the White House, Gore dismissed speculations of any tension in India-US relations and said that the friendship between the two leaders has remained strong over the years.
Responding to a question on the current state of India-US relations, Gore said, “I believe that our relationship is in very good shape. The biggest strength of this relationship is the personal relationship between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi, which has always been strong.”
He said, “The President and the Prime Minister are very good friends. Their friendship goes back many years and will remain so in the years to come.” Gore said that regular communication between the two leaders has played an important role in keeping bilateral relations in a positive direction.
He said, “My goal since arriving in India has been to ensure that both sides continue to engage, advance the relationship and explore opportunities that are equally beneficial to both countries.”
Referring to the recent meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi in France, Gore said that he was also present in that meeting.
“It was a wonderful and extremely cordial meeting, which lasted for more than an hour. The two leaders discussed in detail trade, defense and many other bilateral issues. It was a very fruitful meeting,” he said.
Praising Prime Minister Modi’s working style, Gore said, “He is a very energetic, active and result-oriented leader. In many ways, I see a lot of similarities between him and President Trump, because both are active in their work, take decisions quickly and insist on achieving results.”
He said, “If Prime Minister Modi wants to complete any work, he immediately moves forward on it. President Trump also works in exactly the same way. I believe this is the biggest strength of their friendship and relationship. Both have similar thinking and both want to deliver results.”
In response to a question on President Trump’s outlook towards India, Gore said that Trump still has a very positive attitude towards India and Prime Minister Modi.
He said, “President Trump is very positive towards India. Our relations with India are very deep and long standing. He has always described Prime Minister Modi as his good friend.”
Gore said that Trump still remembers his first visit to India and is deeply impressed by India’s energy and its people.
“He often talks about his first visit to India and the vibrancy there, an experience he has never forgotten,” he said. The US Ambassador indicated that President Trump is keen to visit India after receiving Prime Minister Modi’s invitation.
He said, “I have just come from meeting President Trump in the Oval Office. He asked me, ‘So when am I coming to India?’ He is very excited about coming to India. Prime Minister Modi has invited him.”
The personal rapport between PM Modi and President Trump has been a key feature of India-US relations during the tenure of both the leaders. The two countries have continuously strengthened partnership in a number of areas including trade, defence, technology, Indo-Pacific region, economic cooperation, security and emerging technologies. Regular dialogue is also continuing between the top leadership of the two countries.
