Of. Appointment of Venkat Narayan is a policy decision, there is nothing wrong in it: Minister Sengottaiyan!
Tamil Nadu Revenue and Disaster Management Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan on Sunday defended the state government’s decision to ban Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s film ‘Jana Nayakan’ producer K. Venkat Narayan has been appointed Special Representative of the Government of Tamil Nadu in Delhi. The minister said that this decision of the government is appropriate and there should not be any objection to it.
“Appointment of government representatives is a policy decision. Every person in India has equal right to do so. So there is nothing wrong in this appointment,” he said.
The minister further said that all those appointed by Chief Minister Vijay will work only in the interest of Tamil Nadu and effectively represent the state before the Central government.
The state government has recently issued an order appointing Karnataka native Venkat Narayan as the special representative of the Tamil Nadu government in Delhi for one year. Venkat Narayan is a businessman and also the producer of Chief Minister Vijay’s film ‘Jana Nayakan’. This film is considered to be Vijay’s last film before becoming fully active in politics.
However, opposition party DMK has expressed strong objection to this appointment. Party leaders have raised questions as to why a person from Karnataka was given this responsibility at a time when there are many disputes going on between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
DMK MP Tiruchi Siva described it as “surprising and shocking” and questioned whether the representative would be able to strongly defend Tamil Nadu’s interests on issues like the Cauvery river and Mekedatu dam.
Senior DMK leader A. Raja also criticized the government, saying that important positions were being given to influential people, while experienced leaders were being ignored. He sarcastically said that the government which talked about “change” now seems to be deviating from its own promises.
This appointment has now become a new controversy in Tamil Nadu politics, where the opposition is demanding clarity from the government on this decision, while the government is calling it completely legal and in the interest of the state.
