Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, CM Shivakumar said that the country is going through a critical phase and students are in a state of confusion due to repeated allegations of exam paper leaks.
He said, “Today the country stands at a crossroads. Students and youth are in a dilemma. More than 100 incidents of paper leakage have come to light. The Prime Minister spoke on this issue today, but he should have spoken in the beginning itself.”
The Chief Minister said that this issue should not be politicized. He said that students of India are recognized across the world for their talent and serve as representatives of the country. He said that it is the responsibility of every government to conduct examinations in a transparent manner and students get good education.
On the demand for resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Shivkumar said that no attempt should be made to save anyone. “There is no question of saving anyone. Action should be taken against all those responsible,” he said.
Shivakumar supported the students’ right to protest, saying that peaceful protest is everyone’s right in a democracy. He alleged that the police lathi-charged the protesting students and videos of this alleged action also surfaced while attempts were made to stop them.
He also criticized a section of the media and questioned why the students’ protest and the alleged police action were not given enough importance.
Asked about the alleged attack on Karnataka BJP MLA BP Harish near the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office on Wednesday, Shivakumar said he does not support the incident, but people should look at it in the larger context.
He said that the Home Minister will take appropriate action in this matter. He also said that BJP should also remember those past incidents in which weapons were allegedly recovered during clashes.
