Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh Bittu resigned from his post. President Draupadi Murmu has accepted his resignation. Rajya Sabha membership of Ravneet Singh Bittu ended on 21 June 2026. He represented Rajasthan from August 2024 to June 2026.

While resigning, Ravneet Singh Bittu wrote on X, ‘I wholeheartedly thank President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving me the opportunity to serve the country as a minister in the Government of India.’

What will Ravneet Singh Bittu do now?

According to sources, Ravneet Singh Bittu will now focus on the Punjab Assembly elections to be held next year. Captain Amarinder Singh is no longer politically active. Preparations are underway to hand over the responsibility of the organization in the state to Ravneet Singh Bittu. Ravneet Singh Bittu had said last month that after serving in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in Delhi for 17 years, he now wants to serve his state by coming to the Punjab Assembly.

Who is Ravneet Singh Bittu?

Ravneet Singh Bittu is the grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. He has been a Lok Sabha MP thrice since 2009 on Congress ticket. In March 2024, he took membership of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He contested the Lok Sabha elections from Ludhiana, but lost.

What will be the emphasis now?

A day before resigning, Ravneet Singh Bittu had written a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann appealing for early completion of many important railway projects in the state. Ravneet Singh Bittu will now focus on building the organization of BJP in Punjab. The party has decided to send him to Punjab.
