In the phone conversation, the Prime Minister took information about the damage caused by the heavy rains and the ongoing rescue and relief operations. According to the state government, Prime Minister Modi assured the Chief Minister that the Central Government will provide full assistance for rescue, relief and safety of the people in the affected areas.
This step has been taken at a time when relief and rescue operations have been intensified in Valsad, one of the most affected districts due to incessant rains. At present, three teams of NDRF and five teams of SDRF are carrying out rescue and relief operations in Valsad along with the local administration.
To further strengthen the relief operations, two additional NDRF teams are being airlifted from New Delhi, which will reach Valsad by Thursday evening.
The state government said that a contingent of 70 army personnel is also being sent along with five boats to help in the rescue operations. Apart from this, a 25-member fire service team is also being sent to Valsad to help the local administration deal with the floods.
This additional help has been sent at a time when the state government is continuously reviewing the situation due to continuous heavy rains in South Gujarat.
Earlier, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar on Thursday. There he held a meeting with officials and district collectors and reviewed the situation.
The CM talked to Valsad Collector and Minister Naresh Patel and took information about the rescue operations and gave instructions to send more NDRF teams if needed.
He also directed the collectors of Surat and Navsari to evacuate people living in low-lying and water-logged areas to safe places, where necessary.
The Chief Minister also spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Amit Shah assured the state of all necessary help from the Central Government for rescue and relief operations.
Due to continuous heavy rains in South Gujarat for the last two days, life has been badly affected. Many areas in Valsad have been flooded, while the effects of heavy rain have also been seen in surrounding districts.
Many roads have been closed due to heavy rains in Dang district. Juj and Keliya dams in Navsari have overflowed, following which a warning has been issued for the villages downstream. Meanwhile, in Tapi district, rescue teams evacuated people from flood affected areas to safe places.
As a precautionary measure, all schools in Surat district were kept closed on Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted further heavy to very heavy rainfall in many parts of South and Central Gujarat. The administration is continuously monitoring the situation and rescue and relief operations are going on.
