Industrial growth rate 7.3 percent, electricity-gas sector showed momentum!
The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) increased by 7.3 percent on an annual basis in June. During this period, a strong growth of 10.6 percent was seen in the electricity and gas supply sector and 7.8 percent in manufacturing.
Apart from this, among the main sectors, the growth rate of mining and quarrying sector in June was one percent and the growth rate of water supply, sewerage and waste management sector was 6.1 percent. Of the 23 industry groups within manufacturing, 19 recorded positive growth in June 2026 compared to June 2025.
The three industry groups that contributed the most in June 2026 were manufacturing of electrical equipment at 34 percent; Manufacturing of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers achieved a growth rate of 17.5 percent and food products achieved a growth rate of 10.8 percent.
With a growth of 7.3 per cent, the IIP for June 2026 has increased to 123.1 from 114.7 in June 2025. According to government data, the IIP for mining and quarrying, manufacturing, electricity and gas supply, and water supply, sewerage and waste management for June 2026 will be 110.0, 123.3, 131.0 and 131.0 respectively. It was 145.7.
In the ‘Manufacturing of food products’ industry group, tea, rice (except Basmati) and all types of starch contributed significantly to the growth. According to the official statement, with the release of quick estimates of IIP for June 2026, the final revision of the data for May 2026 has also been done. This revision has been made on the basis of updated data received from source agencies.
The statement said that the quick estimates for June 2026 and the final revised figures for May 2026 have been prepared on the basis of a weighted response rate of 86.7 per cent and 93.1 per cent respectively. According to the statement, the IIP data for July 2026 will be released on August 28, 2026.
