Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian will visit India on 12 and 13 September. He will come to India to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit to be chaired by India. During the visit, there will be an important bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pezeshkian.
Apart from strengthening India-Iran ties, the meeting is likely to discuss issues like development of Chabahar Port, trade, strategic cooperation and regional security in West Asia. This meeting has special significance in the background of increasing tension in West Asia. India is taking over the chairmanship of BRICS in 2026 and is also hosting the 18th BRICS Summit. Therefore, Pezeshkian's visit to India has also attracted international attention.
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held in Bishkek last week, a bilateral meeting was held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dr. Masoud Pejeshkian. In this meeting, both the leaders discussed India-Iran relations. He also reviewed recent developments in the context of the conflict in West Asia.
India has already made it clear that it will strengthen cooperation between India and Iran on multilateral platforms. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated that India is committed to close cooperation with Iran in various multilateral organizations including BRICS and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The importance being given to the issues of trade and strategic cooperation including Chabahar Port in Pejeshkian's upcoming visit to India is now attracting everyone's attention.
