On China praising India's foreign policy, Omar Abdullah said, “Our foreign policy is our own. Why do we look at the certificates of other countries? And the danger in this is that tomorrow if China says something against our foreign policy, what will you do? So, I don't think we should give much importance to what other countries say about our foreign policy, whether it is positive or negative.”
Regarding UCC, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that if you have majority then bring it in Parliament. Why are you implementing it in different states? Anyway, there is no consensus on this within his own NDA.
He said, “According to reports, Janata Dal United has simply given up and said that it will not be implemented in Bihar. So if their own people are not ready for it, then how can they say that it should be implemented in the entire country? They should not come through the backdoor, they should bring the bill in Parliament and see if they have the numbers or not.”
Omar Abdullah said that if it is not applicable in the entire country then it is not universal. The entire country is not ruled by BJP. Many states and union territories are not ruled by the BJP. So, if you apply it only in BJP ruled states, it is not universal.
He said that this kind of thing should not be decided by individual states, it has to be decided by the entire country. The entire country is represented not in the state, but in the Parliament. The law should come to Parliament.
On reports of reduced Chinese deployment along the LAC, the Chief Minister said anything that reduces tension along the Line of Control or the Line of Actual Control is a good step, especially for those living close to it.
“We know how difficult it is for people living close to the LOC or LAC. So, if there is a step to reduce deployment on the Line of Actual Control, it is a good step. And similarly, we hope that with time, things will get better on the Line of Control as well,” he said.
